M Squared President Received Outstanding Minority Business Award
WISCONSIN – M Squared Engineering (M²) has been named the winner of the Wisconsin Minority Business award at Marketplace 2016 – the Governor’s Conference on Minority Business Development. M² President Minal Hahm accepted the award, which was presented by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation in December. The award recognizes businesses in the state that have displayed excellence in customer relations, employment, management, sales and product. M² is one of seven businesses in the state to receive top honors highlighting achievements made by businesses owned by minorities, women and service-disabled veterans.
M², which has offices in Wisconsin and Illinois, provides civil engineering services to public and private sectors including water resource management, land surveying, site design, transportation engineering, construction engineering, municipal engineering and rail design/construction. “We were pleasantly surprised to hear that we had been nominated by WisDOT,” Hahm said. “It’s an honor to be recognized by the Governor’s office as a viable and self-sustaining business. Our industry is in an economic slump with infrastructure funding – this makes it difficult to sustain our workload. We have made strategic modifications that have enabled us to keep our employees busy.” The firm is a small, woman-owned and minority certified engineering company with the Small Business Administration, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois Tollway Authority, Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, Dane County and the Wisconsin Department of Commerce. M² is the only civilian firm trained and qualified to perform rail inspections for the U.S. Army and is now pursuing further rail inspection opportunities nationwide.
Hahm, who is the co-founder of the full-service civil engineering firm in 2003, is the treasurer, past-chair and conference committee chair for the Wisconsin Association for Floodplain, Stormwater, and Costal Management. Hahm also serves as the treasurer for the Cedarburg Friends of Parks and Recreation. M² encourages their employees to continuously give back to the community. As a company, they have donated their services to their community in forms of employee volunteer time as well as design and field work.
